Docklands Cleaner is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, clients, visitors, and members of the public who may be affected by our cleaning activities. This policy sets out the principles and standards that guide our approach to health, safety, and welfare across all service locations.
Our objectives are to prevent injury, protect health, and promote safe working practices in every cleaning task we undertake. We aim to identify and control risks arising from our work, provide clear information and training, and meet or exceed all relevant legal and industry requirements related to health and safety in cleaning operations.
Senior management at Docklands Cleaner is responsible for implementing and maintaining this Health and Safety Policy. Management will:
Ensure that appropriate resources are available to manage health and safety effectively across our cleaning services. Establish and maintain safe systems of work, including clear procedures for routine and non-routine cleaning activities. Regularly review risk assessments and safe working practices to reflect changes in processes, equipment, and client premises. Investigate incidents, near misses, and identified hazards promptly and take corrective action to prevent recurrence. Lead by example in promoting a positive safety culture and ensuring that health and safety considerations are integral to business decisions.
Every employee of Docklands Cleaner has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. Employees must:
Follow all health and safety instructions, training, and site-specific procedures provided. Use equipment, materials, and personal protective equipment correctly and only for their intended purpose. Report accidents, incidents, hazards, and near misses to their supervisor without delay. Maintain good standards of housekeeping in all work areas to reduce slips, trips, and other risks. Cooperate with management to enable Docklands Cleaner to fulfil its health and safety responsibilities.
Docklands Cleaner conducts risk assessments for all significant hazards associated with our cleaning services. These assessments consider the nature of the tasks, the chemicals and equipment used, and the specific features of client premises. We use the findings to develop safe systems of work that may include:
Standard operating procedures for routine cleaning tasks. Task-specific guidance for higher risk activities such as floor maintenance, high-level dusting, and waste handling. Measures to control exposure to cleaning chemicals, including safe storage, handling, and disposal. Procedures to restrict access to work areas during cleaning where necessary to protect building users.
Docklands Cleaner ensures that employees receive appropriate health and safety training before starting work and at regular intervals thereafter. Training covers, as relevant to the role:
General health and safety awareness and company rules. Proper use of cleaning equipment, tools, and machinery. Safe handling and use of cleaning chemicals, including understanding product labels and safety data information. Manual handling techniques to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injury. Emergency procedures, including fire evacuation and incident reporting.
Supervisors monitor working practices, provide guidance and feedback, and confirm that staff remain competent and confident in their duties.
Cleaning chemicals and other hazardous substances are selected, stored, used, and disposed of in a way that minimises risk. We ensure that:
Only approved products are used by staff, in accordance with the manufacturer instructions. Suitable containers and labels are maintained at all times. Information on hazards, precautions, and first aid is readily available to employees. Exposure is controlled through appropriate dilution, ventilation, and use of personal protective equipment where required.
Docklands Cleaner provides appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves, eye protection, footwear, and other items as identified by risk assessments. Employees are instructed to:
Wear the equipment as directed whenever required. Check equipment before use and report damage or defects immediately. Store personal protective equipment correctly when not in use.
All cleaning equipment, including machines, tools, and electrical appliances, is selected and maintained with safety in mind. We:
Provide equipment that is suitable for its intended task and environment. Arrange regular inspections, servicing, and testing where required. Remove defective equipment from use until it has been repaired or replaced. Train staff in the safe use, transport, and storage of equipment.
When providing services on client premises, Docklands Cleaner respects and complies with site-specific health and safety rules. We will:
Coordinate with client representatives to understand local procedures, restrictions, and emergency arrangements. Take into account building occupancy patterns to plan work safely and minimise disruption. Ensure that cleaning activities do not create avoidable risks for building users, including through clear signage and the timely removal of hazards.
All accidents, incidents, and near misses connected with our work are reported without delay. Docklands Cleaner keeps appropriate records and, where necessary, cooperates with client or regulatory investigations. Employees are briefed on emergency procedures, including evacuation routes, assembly points, and how to summon assistance when needed.
Docklands Cleaner regularly reviews this Health and Safety Policy to ensure it remains effective and relevant to our services and operating environment. We monitor performance through audits, inspections, incident analysis, and feedback from staff and clients. Findings are used to improve our systems, training, and working practices.
This Health and Safety Policy is communicated to all employees and is available to clients upon request. By working together and maintaining a strong safety culture, Docklands Cleaner aims to deliver cleaning services that are both high quality and safe for everyone involved.
